Our story began 80 years ago, with a second-hand REO Speedwagon and five dollarsin working capitol. Earle W. Noyes Sr. began hauling trunks from Portland's Union Station to homes and summer cottages in southern Maine.

By 1947, the company had grown to include Earle's son, Lester, and Earle W. Noyes & Sons became a stockholder member of United Van Lines — a unique ownership structure in which Noyes and other agents around the country collectively own United.

In 1971, Earle W. Noyes & Sons had grown to require new space and built a 50,000 square-foot warehouse and office complex on two acres on Franklin and Oxford Streets in Portland.

Lester's son Peter joined the company in 1977 and became President in 1987. Lester became Noyes' chairman and a board member of United Van Lines.

Noyes continued to grow and opened a heated self-storage facility for its customers in 1990.

By 1992, the success of Earle W. Noyes & Sons and other United Van Lines owners enabled United to become the revenue leader in the moving industry.

In 2001, an additional 35,000 square feet was added to the Noyes storage complex on an adjacently acquired two acres of land.

Peter's son, William, joined the company in 2005.

Today, Noyes has grown to employ over 70 highly skilled employees, with an average of 18 years of moving experience. We offer 270,000 square feet of climate-controlled storage space and a fleet of over 80 trucks — any size, for any move.
